UPDATE: Hawthorne Sunday night accident

Columbus, OH — On Sunday (July 19), there was a three-horse accident during the 10th race at Hawthorne Race Course.

Captain Classic (Kyle Husted) was on the lead and stumbled badly just after the three-quarter pole unseating his driver. Both Fox Valley Jude (Tyler Shehan) and Master Ken (Casey Leonard) were unable to avoid the mishap and also caused their drivers to fall to the track.

Hawthorne Race Course reported via their Facebook page Sunday night: “Update from race 10 incident. Vet reports that all three horses involved in the incident escaped without injury. Both Casey Leonard and Tyler Shehan walked away uninjured, while Kyle Husted was transported to a local hospital with pain in his ankle. Husted was reported as being alert when leaving the racetrack.”

In an update, Hawthorne reported on Monday afternoon: “Have gotten great news from all three drivers involved in the race 10 spill last night as Kyle Husted, Casey Leonard and Tyler Shehan all reporting soreness but none reporting any major injury. Each planning on a quick return to the bike!”
