Upstate NY USHWA sponsors Young Writers Contest

by Tim Bojarski, president, Upsate NY USHWA

The members of Upstate New York USHWA know how important it is for students to learn how to write in a concise, entertaining and informative manner. And we would also like to encourage our younger fans to write about our favorite sport, too. So we have put together a contest that will enable you to show everyone how well you write and give yourself a chance to win a great prize in the process.

If you are 14 years of age or younger, we would like you to submit a 300-500 word story about “Why I like Harness Racing” for your chance to win an Apple iPod MP3 player. The story can be about any aspect of the sport that you want and you can explain it anyway you see fit. The winning entry will be selected by the members of this chapter and that story will be featured on our Web site along with your name and picture.

This contest will run as long as summer vacation lasts so you’ll have ample opportunity to use some of your free time to compose your winning entry. Then you might have “new tunes” to take back to school with you in the fall. The closing date for entries will be Tuesday, September 2, 2008.

Along with your story, we will need your name, mailing address, and e-mail address.

Please log on our Web site at www.upstatenyushwa.com, click on the “Fan Page” link at the top of the home page, then scroll down to the link to enter.

Good luck and thanks for taking part in the contest!
