USHWA makes $5,000 donation to Harness Racing Museum

Harrisburg, PA — The United States Harness Writers Association, the sport’s leading communications association, is in the process of assembling the materials that will distribute ballots and biographical information for the annual summertime vote deciding who will receive the sport’s highest honor, election into the Hall of Fame.

This year’s candidates will be Frank Antonacci and Per Eriksson; also on the ballot are the two candidates for the Communicators Hall of Fame, Bob Roberts and Ken Warkentin.

USHWA is grateful to be the organization entrusted with the conduct of the Hall of Fame balloting and the permanent displays of the “best of the best” in our sport. USHWA has always sought to further our relationship with the Hall and the Harness Racing Museum, which includes an initial year of Museum membership for new USHWAns, and an annual donation, stated as a focus in the group’s bylaws, to the efforts of the Museum as a repository of the best of the sport, past, present, and future.

This year, a check for $5,000 was presented by USHWA president Barry Lefkowitz to Harness Racing Museum Director Janet Terhune during the annual Hall of Fame Induction Day Banquet, traditionally held on the first Sunday in July.

Lefkowitz noted, “The membership of USHWA is once again pleased to present our donation of $5,000 to the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame. This is an important donation as we must help preserve the history of harness racing.”

In addition to the coordination of the Hall of Fame voting, USHWA also conducts the year-end polling recognizing the top equines and humans in the sport of the previous year, all of whom are honored at the Dan Patch Night of Champions Banquet; 2022’s stars will be honored on Feb. 19, 2023, at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in Orlando, Fla.
