USTA announces Jug Week Celebrity Speakers Series

Columbus, OH — All fans of harness racing and the Little Brown Jug are invited Sept. 23 and 24 to the Celebrity Speakers Series in the Jugette barn, hosted by the USTA.

Racing’s greatest horsemen, veterinary experts and experienced handicappers will answer questions and share their insights into horses, harness racing and the Little Brown Jug from 8-11 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday.

Wednesday Schedule (Sept. 23)
8 a.m. — Ohio State veterinarian Margaret Mudge will speak on colic and its impact on Standardbreds.

9 a.m. — Handicapper and author Dave Brower, joined by 2008 Jug-winning driver David Miller, will discuss Brower’s book, “Harnessing Winners,” and answer questions about racing and betting.

10 a.m. — Tim Tetrick and Brian Sears, who have soared to the top of the North American driving colony, will talk about their careers and Jug hopes.

Thursday Schedule (Sept. 24)
8 a.m. — Handicappers Sam McKee, Dave Bianconi and Dave Brower — with special guest, legendary announcer Roger Huston — will help you handicap the Jug Day card.

9 a.m. — Driver Ron Pierce and trainer Steve Elliott will discuss their top pacing colt, Well Said, as well as their experiences with other great horses.

10 a.m. — John Campbell, the greatest harness driver in history, will answer questions.

Dave Brower will also sign copies of “Harnessing Winners” at the USTA Tent near the Jugette barn, from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday. Brower will be back signing Thursday at the USTA Tent, also from 11 a.m. to noon, and will be joined by Nicole Kraft, signing her book, “100 Years in Harness.” Both books will be offered at a special price!

While at the Jugette barn, you may also sign up for our free drawings, which include autographed photos, USTA logo merchandise and bobbleheads!
