Columbus, OH — The USTA recently welcomed Wayne Shaffer III to serve as the new ID technician for the western region of Pennsylvania and Northeastern Ohio.

Shaffer is based out of McClellandtown, Pa., and has been involved in several aspects of the harness racing industry spanning several decades. Shaffer has run the family owned Shaffer Standardbreds for 18 years, as well as his own equine transportation business.

Shaffer will be replacing longtime USTA ID technician Gary Reese.

Reese, who worked tirelessly to accommodate all horsemen and women, providing them with nothing but excellent service, has been chosen to serve as an associate judge at the Meadows, a place where he has been the starter for several years.
