USTA provides technical assistance to horse adoption groups

Freehold, NJ — The United States Trotting Association will provide a complimentary guidebook on starting, maintaining and improving equine rescue and adoption programs to any existing or aspiring program that serves Standardbreds.

The book, How to Start and Run a Rescue, is valued at $20 and written by Dr. Jennifer Williams. Topics include formation of a nonprofit, fundraising, public relations, marketing, formulating policies and bookkeeping practices. Dr. Williams, who has founded and run two successful rescue organizations, also discusses ways to improve an existing program and planning for long term sustainability.

The book is distributed by the American Horse Council’s Unwanted Horse Coalition, of which the USTA is a member. All proceeds benefit Operation Gelding. Operation Gelding has funded clinics across the country to help control indiscriminate breeding.

To get a copy of the book, organizations must have assisted Standardbreds in the past or intend to in the future. Contact Ellen Harvey at ellen.harvey@ustrotting.com or at 732.780.3700.
