Valuable Art captures the Mares Open Pace at Dover Downs

Dover, DE – The Mares Open Pace became a family affair on Wednesday night (Jan. 29). Valuable Art, who was driven to victory by Corey Callahan, is trained by his father Nick Callahan and owned by his mother Dolly Callahan. The morning line favorite Bettor Joy N was scratched sick. This minimized the field to five, but did not diminish the quality.

At the start both Delishka N and the 4-5 race favorite Moments Of Joy left alertly. Moments of Joy attempted to quarter pole to the lead, but Alan Davis and Delishka N wanted the lead making Moments of Joy yield to the pocket.

Delishka N set leisure fractions of :27 :56.1 and a three-quaters in 1:24.3. Valuable Art grinded first up at the three-quarter pole and pressured the pace setter Delishka N thru a :28.4 third quarter. Terror at Night labored on the rim nearing the three-quarter pole. This allowed Moments of Joy and driver Victor Kirby to maneuver off the rail and shadowed Valuable Art second over.

In the stretch Valuable Art was able to wear down the pace-setter Delishk N, who finished last. Valuable Art won in 1:51.4 by a length at odds of 6-1.

Moments of Joy could not gain any ground in the stretch and finished a gallant second for driver Victor Kirby and trainer Bryan Truitt. Terror at Night charged home late to finish 3rd for Montrell Teague and trainer Jeff Bamond Jr.

Dexter Dunn won four races and Tim Tetrick completed the night with a triple.

Wiggle It Jiggleit will race in the 12th race Preferred Pace on Thursday (Jan. 30).

Dover Downs post time is 4:30 pm.
