Varsity Hanover scores in Rosecroft feature

Ft. Washington, MD — The battle continues between Hi Sir and Varsity Hanover for horse of the Fall meet honors at Rosecroft Raceway.

In the Open Pace for colts and geldings on Tuesday (Nov. 24), Varsity Hanover hung on to win by a neck in 1:52.4 for owner/trainer James Whalen Jr. and driver Donald Dancer after an incredible four deep move from last by Hi Sir at the head of the lane to finish second.

In the Open 2 Pace for colts and geldings I Wanna Go Fast was serious Tuesday night, pacing the mile in 1:51.1 to win by open lengths, equaling his season’s best for trainer Brian Callahan and driver Sean Bier.

In the non-winners of $5,000 last five, the new acquisition Pop Pop Joe won for owner/driver Ken Weckstein and trainer Ken Schlotzhauer in 1:52.4 in a huge wire-to-wire victory.

The Open Trot went to Windsong Ingenius for trainer Arty Foster Jr. and driver Russell Foster in 1:55.4 for a season’s best.
