Velocity Lady pulls mild upset in $23,000 Dayton Open

Dayton, OH — Ultra consistent Velocity Lady (Brady Galliers) won her third Open Mares pace of the current Hollywood Dayton meet on Friday (Nov. 25), upending last week’s winner Ainthesamewithoutu (Tony Hall) and favored Rockin Nola (Joey Putnam) in a brisk 1:50.3 mile.

Dispatched at 4-1 odds, the winner sat a perfect pocket trip behind Rockin Nola as the best mares in the region breezed through fractions of :26.3, :55 and 1:22.2 before storming home to the wire in :28.1.

Galliers, who also co-owns and trains Velocity Lady, popped the pocket at the head of the homestretch and hurriedly opened up a several length lead. Ainthesamewithoutu rallied up the passing lane to grab the place money with Rockin Nola saving the show spot.

It was the eighth seasonal victory for Velocity Lady and raised her 2022 earnings to $133,265. The 5-year-old daughter of Bettor’s Delight took a record of 1:49.4 on Nov. 4 at Dayton. Owned by Galliers Racing and Look Ahead Racing, Velocity Lady is approaching $180,000 in career purse rewards.

In a $17,500 high condition undercard event for mares, Princess Rougarou (Chris Page) bested A Special Moment (Hall) and Stay Gold (Josh Sutton). Owner Will Johnson also trains the 7-year-old daughter of Big Bad John, who returned $16.60 to her backers.

Racing at Hollywood Dayton resumes on Saturday (Nov. 25) with a 14-race program beginning at 4 p.m.
