Velocity Lady sets new lifetime mark in Dayton feature

Dayton, OH — Velocity Lady stepped up to the challenge in the $23,000 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace on Friday (Nov. 4) at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway. Despite the steep competition, Velocity Lady came out on top in a new lifetime mark of 1:49.4.

Leaving from post two, the 5-year-old daughter of Bettor’s Delight fired off the gate and settled into the pocket behind 8-5 favorite Marloe Hanover. Passed the :26.1 opening quarter, driver Jeremy Smith wasted no time in gaining control of the field, brushing Velocity Lady to the front to set middle fractions of :55 and 1:22 before stopping the clock in a blazing 1:49.4. Marloe Hanover (Brett Miller) was second — just a nose short — while Single Girl (Trevor Smith) finished third.

Velocity Lady didn’t begin her racing career until the age of four, and the delayed start is proving to be fruitful. The Brady Galliers trainee has now won seven of her 24 seasonal starts and boasts $162,416 in lifetime earnings. Velocity Lady is owned in partnership by Galliers Racing and Look Ahead Racing.

Jeremy Smith ended the 14-race card with four wins on the evening. Miller, Kayne Kauffman and Tyler Smith all scored triples.
