Victory Tax records 70th career win at Scarborough Downs

by Michael Sweeney, for Scarborough Downs

Scarborough, ME — Victory Tax has spent most of his career as a “Friday Night” sort of trotter, racing the best on the circuit and generally being recognized as the esteemed King of the Free For All scene. It was a during a Scarborough Downs twilight card, on a picture perfect high-summer Thursday (Aug. 3) though, that the now 11-year-old class-master reached his latest plateau, as the four-time Trotter of the Year recorded the 70th win of his illustrious career with his favorite driver Drew Campbell calling the shots from the sulky.

Victory Tax visits the winner’s circle for the 70th occasion in his career on Thursday afternoon at Scarborough Downs.

Always tough on the lead and still with plenty of gate speed left in those veteran legs, Victory Tax was hustled quickly to the early advantage before sprinting home under wraps to record the benchmark win timed in a seasonal equaling best clocking of 1:59.2.

The son of Victory Sam-Ataxia who is trained by Kimberly Vafiades for owner Kyle Gibbs, crossed over the $350,000 mark in lifetime earnings with the win.

Scarborough Downs is pleased to present twilight harness racing cards on a Thursday and Saturday schedule at 4:30 p.m. (EDT) with the Sunday matinee heading to post at 1:30 p.m.
