Village Jolt headlines Adios Pace

by Anne Doolin for the Meadows

Meadow Lands, PA – Millionaire Village Jolt, voted harness racing’s 2004 Two-Year-Old Pacing Colt of the Year, headlines one of two elimination heats for Saturday’s $421,800 Delvin Miller Adios Pace at the Meadows.

Village Jolt drew post six in the 10th race elimination [going at approximately 5 p.m.], with new Hall of Fame inductee Ron Pierce named to drive by trainer Brett Pelling. Pierce and Pelling teamed up to win last year’s Adios with Timesareachanging. Village Jolt, owned by Jules and Arlene Siegel of New Hope, PA and Jeff Snyder of New York, NY, has been installed the 7-5 morning line favorite in the field of seven.

Village Jolt appears to be close to regaining last year’s top form, in spite of just one win in six starts this season, after finishing second in the $1 million Meadowlands Pace in his last start. His career earnings of $1,193,852 make him the richest of the Adios colts by far.

Second choice at 5-2 is locally-based With Anticipation, who drew the rail with Mike Wilder to drive. The colt is conditioned by Meadows-based Norm Parker and owned by John Condon of Maineville, Ohio. With Anticipation won three in a row, including the North America Cup consolation in a lifetime best 1:51.1, before finishing sixth in the Holmes at the Meadowlands in his last out.

The fleet P-Forty-Seven is the 2-1 favorite in the 11th race Adios elimination from post four with the Meadows’ longtime leading reinsman Dave Palone to drive for trainer and co-owner Kelly O’Donnell. The son of The Panderosa has won his last two outs, and with a mark of 1:48.2 taken in a nine-and-a-half length romp in the Meadowlands Pace consolation, is the fastest of the Adios entrants.

Speed Demon is second choice at 7-2 from post five, with Ron Pierce to drive for Brett Pelling. That son of Life Sign, who earned just under $300,000 last year as a freshman, is owned by Perfect World Enterprises of Old Westbury, NY, who also own last year’s Adios winner.

The top four from each elimination advance to the Adios Final, which is slated for 6:50 p.m. as the 14th race. First race post time on Saturday for Adios Day at The Meadows is 2 p.m. There are special activities and stakes racing every night this week during Grand Circuit.
