Harrisburg, PA — For the second year in a row, multiple yearlings sold for at least $300,000 during the second session of the Standardbred Horse Sale as the annual yearling auction continued its record pace for gross with one day to go.

Volcanic Blue Chip, a daughter of Walner-Thislady’sdynamite, sold for $325,000 to Ake Svanstedt. Her family includes multiple Dan Patch Award-winner Mr Muscleman as well as the dams of millionaire Plunge Blue Chip, a world-record-holding former Svanstedt star, and Lady Chaos, who was a Breeders Crown winner in 2020.

She was bred by Blue Chip Bloodstock and Riverview Breeding and consigned by Blue Chip Farms. She is New Jersey and Kentucky eligible.

Blue Chip Bloodstock also bred last year’s top seller for the second session, Unicorn Blue Chip, who is a half-sister to Plunge Blue Chip.

Twin B Predator, a son of Captaintreacherous-Paisley Hanover, was purchased for $310,000 by Noel Daley as agent. He is the first foal out of Paisley Hanover, who is a half-sister to Panera Hanover, the dam of word-record-setter Papi Rob Hanover.

He was bred and consigned by Twinbrook Limited. He is Pennsylvania eligible.

Last year, three horses sold for at least $300,000 on day two of the auction at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show Complex. In the five years prior to 2021, no yearling went for more than $280,000 during the second session.

Through this year’s two sessions, the sale has grossed $35.7 million for 506 horses, an average of $70,613. This year’s sale is $7 million from the overall record for gross, which was set in 2007 at $42.7 million for 1,048 horses.

Last year through two days, the sale totaled $33.4 million for 421 horses, an average of a record $79,399. The previous record average of $69,769 was established in 2019, when for two sessions the sale grossed $32.6 million for 468 yearlings.

Seven Again, a daughter of Chapter Seven-Armbro Deja Vu, was purchased for $260,000 by Trond Smedshammer to be third on Tuesday’s best-sellers list. The filly is a half-sister to millionaire Dejarmbro, who was trained by Smedshammer, and her dam is a three-quarter sister to millionaire Manofmanymissions.

She was bred by Fair Winds Farm and consigned by Preferred Equine Marketing. She is New York and New Jersey Standardbred Development Fund eligible.

Rounding out the group of horses to surpass $200,000 on Tuesday were filly trotters Elista Hanover and Abra Abra Kadabra, and filly pacer Sarasota Hanover.

Elista Hanover, a daughter of International Moni-Evermore, went for $240,000 to Lynn Curry. She is a half-sister to May Karp, a winner on the Pennsylvania stakes circuit, from the family of O’Brien Award-winner Up And Ready and Dan Patch/O’Brien awards-winner Maven. She was bred and consigned by Hanover Shoe Farms. She is Pennsylvania eligible.

Abra Abra Kadabra, a daughter of Kadabra-Windsong Nolwenn, sold for $235,000 to Determination. She is from the family of O’Brien Award-winner Windsong Espoir. She was bred by Shmuel Farhi and consigned by Icy Stable. She is Ontario eligible.

Sarasota Hanover, a daughter of Stay Hungry-Surfside Sexy, was purchased for $210,000 by Linda Toscano as agent. She is a full sister to Grand Circuit winner Lyons Surfing from the family of multiple Dan Patch Award-winner She’s A Great Lady. She was bred and consigned by Hanover Shoe Farms. She is Pennsylvania eligible.

The final session of the yearling portion of the Standardbred Horse Sale begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday and features hip numbers 525 through 938.
