East Rutherford, NJ –– After very early morning rains, Saturday’s (June 24) qualifying card began just as the clouds parted and the sun shone brightly. The flags wafted in a slight wind with the track wet fast to start, though it was a bit muggy with temps in the mid-70’s. The presence of the top rated 3-year-old trotting colt, Walner, who toured the oval in 1:53, while trotting home in :28.2 into a significant headwind for his third consecutive qualifying victory highlighted the 23-race event. Ken Jacobs owns, Linda Toscano trains and Tim Tetrick drives, the colt who is on course for the Aug. 5 Hambletonian. Twenty of the contests were for 2-year-olds with no lack of pedigree or ability on display.
