Upfront Ellijay Ed (#1) collars Ideal Champ at the wire in a division of the Weiss Series.

After hitting the half in :57.2, the pair led the field through a third panel in 1:24.4. In mid-stretch Social Network comfortably drew away from Showdown At Sun Up and Its Rock N Roll for his second victory in the two-leg series. Time of the mile was 1:53.

The Ron Burke trained Three Artist kept his streak alive in the Weiss Series as well. The Real Artist 4-year-old pulled from the pocket just past the quarter, taking the field to the half in :55. Going up the backside Recent News launched a serious challenge to the front runner as they hit the three-quarters in 1:23.3. In deep stretch Three Artist survived the late charge of Morality, taking the event by a scant nose in 1:52.1. Weigh The Odds took third.

A first time starter in the Weiss Series, Upfront Ellijay Ed, got up in the final strides to nail Ideal Champ at the wire in the third division. Piloted by George Napolitano, Jr., the 4-year-old Dragon Again gelding took the field past the opening panel in :26.3, but was soon eclipsed by Ideal Champ. The new leader lit up the timer with a :54.2 half and kept rolling down the backstretch to the three-quarter pole in 1:22.1. Upfront Ellijay Ed popped out of the pocket in the stretch to nip Ideal Champ in 1:50.4.

In the fourth and final Weiss division, favorite Midas Blue Chip again found gold with his near wire-to-wire effort. Guided by Jimmy Morrill, Jr. and trained by Brian Seidel, Midas Blue Chip took command at the quarter in :27.4 and sped through a :55.4 half and three-quarters in 1:23.3. The final time of 1:52 equaled his winning time in the opening leg. Finishing out the top three were Bet On The Law and Bettors Glass.

The top point earners go postward next Tuesday (April 17) in the $30,000 Bobby Weiss Late Closing Series Final.
