Freehold, NJ — Well Said, the top-ranked pacer in the most recent harness racing poll, will return to action in Saturday night’s (Sept. 12) Simcoe Stakes at Mohawk Racetrack in Ontario.

Well Said last raced on August 16, winning the $500,000 Battle of the Brandywine at Harrah’s Chester Casino and Racetrack. It was his seventh victory in nine starts this season and pushed his earnings to $1.5 million.

The 3-year-old colt, trained by Steve Elliott and driven by Ron Pierce, tuned up for the Simcoe with a 1:51.4 qualifying mile at Mohawk on September 4.

“Ronnie said that’s the best he’s been,” Elliott said. “I think he came though the layoff in good shape. He gained some weight. He was already heavy, but it didn’t hurt him none.”

North America Cup champion Well Said returns to Mohawk in Saturday’s Simcoe Stakes.

Earlier this year, Well Said won the $1.3 million North America Cup at Mohawk. His career victories also include the 2009 Meadowlands Pace and the 2008 Breeders Crown. His lifetime earnings are $2.1 million.

Following the Simcoe, Well Said’s next start should come in the Little Brown Jug on September 24 at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Ohio.

On Saturday, Well Said will race in the second of two C$130,000-plus Simcoe divisions. He will start from post two in a field that includes Carnivore, Fast Pay, Rescue Plan, Foolish Justice, Waffles And Cream, and Its A Good Thing.

Carnivore is coming off a second-place finish to Sheer Desire in the $300,000 Kentucky Sire Stakes final. Earlier this season, he won a Burlington Stakes division at Mohawk. Fast Pay is a multiple Ontario Sire Stakes Gold winner. Waffles And Cream was second to Stonebridge Terror in the $427,200 Upper Canada Cup in May.

The first Simcoe split features Shipps Xpectancy, Vertical Horizon, Barn Art, Lyons Horace, Stinger Blue Chip, and Ideal Race.

Lyons Horace won the $162,030 Canadian Breeders Championship in July at Mohawk and was second to Fast Pay in the most recent Ontario Sire Stakes Gold final. Vertical Horizon was second in the Monument Circle and third in the Oliver Wendell Holmes.
