Welu’s Dreamboat scores fourth straight

Pompano Beach, FL — Maddy J Racing Stable’s Welu’s Dreamboat scored his fourth straight victory against the best pacers on the grounds in Pompano Park’s $10,000 Open Handicap Pace on Saturday night (September 9).

Superbly driven by Anthony Napolitano for trainer Jacques Dupuis, Welu’s Dreamboat out-sprinted the field from his outside six post to take charge after an eighth of a mile and clocked panels of :27.3, :56.4 and 1:24.4 before leaving the field in the dust with a final quarter in :27.4 to stop the timer in 1:52.3. The pocket sitting Star Role was second for Stephan Lareau with Hesadoozy, driven by Daryl Bier, third.

The versatile 5-year-old son of Camluck now has a 6-7-6 scorecard in 28 starts and 2006 bounty of $47,428.

Eleven A M found racing room turning for home and scored a hard earned victory in the $8,250 co-feature in 1:54 for Bruce Ranger. Owned by the Berry Stables of Staten Island, New York, the 4-year-old son of Falcon Almahurst earned his sixth win of the year in 25 starts and sent his lifetime earnings to $288,453 with the win. Rickards Ed was second for Matt Kakaley while Talbotwesternflame and Wally Ross, Jr. teamed up to finish third.

Driver Dave Ingraham, returning from a highly successful season at “The Rock,” hit the winner’s circle with Prodigal Two, who nailed the favorite, Paper Exchange (Ranger) a couple of steps before the wire to score in 1:53.3, a seasonal best for the 5-year-old son of Powerbook. Broadway Jake (Anthony Napolitano) was third in the mile. The win put Prodigal Two’s earnings $9 short of $30,000 for the year. He’s owned and trained by Lawrence Nichols of Lake Worth, Florida.

I’ve Got The Power scored his 14th victory in 16 lifetime starts in Florida Sunshine State Stakes action.

I’ve Got The Power returned to his winning ways with a convincing win in 1:54.3 in the Florida Sunshine State Stakes for 3-year-old pacing colts and geldings. The sophomore son of Signed ‘n Sealed had his regular pilot, Wally Hennessey, back in the bike and, though starting from the outside post nine, had the lead a few steps before the opening quarter in :28.2 and put up all the numbers thereafter — :58 and 1:26.4 before coasting home in :27.4 to hit the wire a length the best of a game Lover Boy Le Ru, who was driven by Jim McDonald. Letthemagicbegin had a three hole trip all the way for Bruce Ranger and finished third.

For I’ve Got The Power, owned by Keisers Oberman Stable and Rod Lorenzo, it was his fourth win of the year in five starts and 14th lifetime in 16 starts, pushing his lifetime bounty over $80,000.

In other “FSSS” action, D’artagnan and Ace Mactavish both extended their winning streaks with convincing victories in the juvenile pacing division for colts and geldings.

D’artagnan, the sharp Mean Mr Mustard colt owned by trainer Veral Bowman along with Frank and Inge Smith, scored a handy win for Bruce Ranger in 1:58.3, defeating Skip (Matt Kakaley) and Tough Trooper (Jay Sears) for his fourth straight win.

Ranger sat in the pocket behind Okeechobeescooter (Bier) as that one clicked off panels of :29.4, 1:00.3 and 1:30.1 and then burst out of the pocket turning for home en route to his final quarter in :28.1 to seal the deal.

Ace Mactavish won his sixth in a row, blasting to the front after Spock took the field to the quarter in :29 and then carved out the rest of the mile, posting fractions of :58.3 and 1:28 before rolling home in :28.4 to score for Wally Hennessey.

Owned by Souren Hovsepian along with Rod Lorenzo, Ace Mactavish won by three and three-quarter lengths over Primo’s Hot Wire and Tom Haughton. Spock was third for Bobby Williams, Jr.
