West Of L A, She’s A Fan seek satisfaction in Eternal Camnation

Campbellville, ON — Bob McIntosh trainee West Of L A tasted defeat for the first time in her young career in the Whenuwishuponastar Stakes final on July 21, and the determined daughter of Western Hanover-Los Angeles will be looking for redemption this Saturday (August 16) as she goes postward in one of the two C$143,300 divisions of the Eternal Camnation Stakes for freshman pacing fillies at Mohawk.

Backstreet Sweetie, who defeated West Of L A by 1-1/2 lengths in that contest, will be sitting out the Eternal Camnation, so with nearly a month’s rest under her belt and a short field of just seven other fillies to face, West Of L A has been given the nod as the 3-1 favorite in her division (race nine, post time 10:24 p.m.).

Mind you, she will have to get past She’s A Fan, the Carl Jamieson pupil who impressed many with a four-race win streak to start her career. The last time this Artiscape-Tear Drop daughter met up with West Of L A, she finished fourth, her first time in that position, so she will also be seeking the start of a new streak. She’s A Fan is listed at 4-1 in the morning line.

In the first of the two Eternal Camnation flights, watch for In The Game, who’ll be making her Mohawk debut for Richard ‘Nifty’ Norman, with John Campbell in the bike. This daughter of I Am A Fool-Elena Blue Chip has won both of her baby races thus far, at Pocono Downs and The Meadowlands, and comes to the Campbellville oval primed to take on tougher company. She is the 5-2 second favorite in race three, post time 8:10 p.m.

Don’t forget that Saturday night is also the night to catch the C$702,000 Canadian Pacing Derby, with a duel expected between veteran pacers Mister Big and Artistic Fella. Mohawk will also be presenting a Family Fun night, featuring a personal appearance by Thumbelina, the world’s smallest horse!
