William “Bill” Rowland, 62, dies

Columbus, OH — William V. “Bill” Rowland, 62, of Trotwood, Ohio, died peacefully at home, with his wife by his side, on May 12, 2020.

He was born April 15, 1958, in Middletown, Ohio, to the late William “Bud” and Geneva “Chris” Rowland.

Mr. Rowland retired from AK Steel (Armco) on Jan. 13, 2007, after 30 years of service.

He was a member of the United States Trotting Association since January 1986 and was an owner, driver and trainer of Standardbreds. Some of his favorites were Jehoshaphat Joe, Fizzle, Graylins’ Siege, Millie’s Belief and Bazinga.

Mr. Rowland is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Laura; brother, David; sister, Jane Stamper; nephews, Scott, Christopher, Jeremy, Jonah Shaver, Carter Shaver and Matt Martin; nieces, Jessica Cummins, Beverly Sixt and Amanda Elliott; mother-in-law, Pauline Martin; brothers-in-law, Lee (Ann) Martin and Bruce (Pam) Martin; sisters-in-law, Peggy (Ken Roddy) Shaver and Amy (Lowell) Stepp; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Charles “Dick” Martin; and brother-in-law, Edsel “Daryl” Stamper.

A memorial service will take place at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Research.
