Windemere Royal pulls surprise in Sunday Dover feature

Dover, DE — Windemere Royal sat behind race favorite Believe This Bob until the final turn, then sped past and on to a 1:54.2 victory in the $18,000 pace on Sunday (April 1) at Dover Downs.

Meet leading driver Corey Callahan, reining Windemere Royal, stalked prohibitive favorite Believe This Bob until after the three-quarters before moving to the outside and quickly stepping into the lead.

The Royal Mattjesty-Allamerican Reach gelding, owned by trainer Nick Callahan, recorded his second win of the year, building his seasonal bankroll to $27,125. Personnel Space (Vic Kirby) at 79-1 closed to finish second in front of We The People (Jim Morand).

Heavenly Place, with Jason Lynch in the bike, lowered his lifetime mark to 1:54.3 in winning the sub-featured $12,500 mares pace. Frank Chick owns the Riverboat King-Angel Place mare trained by Alan Derrickson. Midnight Mass (Brad Hanners) and Night’s Pacific (George Dennis) were second and third, respectively.
