Winter racing series return to Hawthorne

Stickney, IL — With four racing seasons to take place at Hawthorne Race Course in 2022, racing opportunities for both Standardbred and Thoroughbred horses will be aplenty. With the winter harness season kicking off on Friday (Jan. 7), racing secretary Robin Schadt has announced 12 winter series races for the season.

A split of six pacing and six trotting opportunities will be offered with both open-company and state-bred options available for horsemen. Each of the winter series races will offer two legs along with a series final. The purse on each of the legs is $12,000 while the series final will go for $24,000. The top 10 money earning horses combined for the legs will qualify for the final.

There is a $200 fee per horse to nominate and no entry fee to race. Nominations for the races must be postmarked no later than Dec. 15, 2021.

To nominate, download and fill out the nomination form located under the green tab labeled “Condition/Nomination Form” in the Horsemen section of the Hawthorne website. Any questions can be emailed to racingoffice@hawthorneracecourse.com.
