Wolfenden wins five including two DSBF finals Wednesday

Harrington, DE — More than $500,000 in total purses was at stakeWednesday (Oct. 5) night at Harrington Raceway as the Delaware StandardbredBreeders Fund (DSBF) $100,000 final events for 2-year-olds headlined theprogram.


It was a big night for driver Ross Wolfenden who was the winning pilot in twoof the DSBF final events and had five wins on the program.

Unbeaten trotter Master Clave maintained his perfect record, winning the colt and gelding DSBF final in 2:02.1 Wednesday at Harrington Raceway.

Wolfenden guided unbeaten trotter Master Clave ($2.10) to his fourth straightwin in 2:02.1 for owner Ben Brooks in the colt and gelding trotting final. TheMaster Lavec gelding set all the fractions and drew away with ease from KirbyIn Command and Jiggs, who rounded out the trifecta. Master Clave was trained byJohn Wilkerson.


Wolfenden later sprung a mild upset with Jo Ann Looney King’s Logan’s Girl($11.40), who was a 1:56 winner in the filly pacing final over stable mate and1-to-9 favorite Spanish Dream, who was second. Westwind Roddylee was third.


A daughter of Roddy’s Bags Again for trainer Jim King Jr., Looney King’sLogan’s Girl sat behind the favorite throughout and surged by in deep stretchfor her fourth career win in five lifetime starts.


In the final for pacing colts and geldings, George Teague Jr.’s Henry TheDragon ($4.80, Montrell Teague) was a dominant winner in 1:53.1. The ClydeFrancis-trainee rebuffed the early challenge of Almost Cut My Hair and was ansix-length winner over Wake Up and Go and Hallie’s Comet. Henry The Dragon, ason of Custard The Dragon, improved to 3-for-3 in his career. The time equaledthe track record for 2-year-old pacing colts, set by Powerful Mist in 2010.


Rodney Mitchell Jr.’s Meantrotnjean ($29.40, Allan Davis) was victorious in thefilly trotting final for trainer Leigh Raymer, with a 2:02.1 score. The CRCommando filly maintained a big lead going to three-quarters and overpoweredher rivals for her second career win. Luv Is Blind charged home for second withGogh Cinorita third.


Wolfenden also took the overnight feature, the $17,700 Open Trot with a 1:56.3score aboard Joe and Laurie Davino’s Take My Picture ($9.20).
