Women crush male foes in TVG Get Away Amateur Series

by David Siegel, for the California Amateur Driving Club

Sacramento, CA — The second of three legs of the 2011 TVG Get Away Amateur Series took place in two divisions this past Saturday (June 11) at Cal Expo.

Amanda Fraser won her first pari-mutuel race and the first leg with Laredos Goose, which also happens to be the leading horse in the series. Karen Isbell finished second with Alexander Penn as that gelding made it two straight place finishes. Karen is slightly ahead of Amanda in the overall point standings.

The women drivers continued their dominance, finishing 1-2-3 in the filly division of the event. Karen Isbell continued her strong finishing ways by winning first over with Pedal On The Right. Flip-flopping the finish of the first race, Fraser finished in the second spot with Agirlthing, and Sue Boyce guided Gorgeous Forever to the third place finish.

While the women are running 1-2 in the standings, since the drivers are randomly assigned to their mounts things can change quickly as the luck of the draw and pure driving skill combine to determine the ultimate outcome.

Current standings for drivers and horses can be found at this link.

The final two legs of the TVG series will be held on the meet’s closing night, this Saturday (June 18).
