World champion Delicious retired from racing in Sweden

The 8-year-old mare Delicious, who holds two world records, has been retired from racing after she had undergone surgery in her stomach this week.

The 8-year-old mare Delicious has been retired from racing.

Delicious, who was bred and raised at Lindy Farms of Connecticut, was entered to race Saturday at the Arjang Track in Sweden, but became ill earlier this week, and Thursday she had to undergo surgery at a clinic in Sweden.

Friday morning her trainer, Daniel Redén, announced that Delicious was retired from racing.

Delicious, who holds the world record for older mares over the mile on a five-eighths-mile track with a 1:50.2 and world record for older mares over the 1-5/16th mile distance on a five-eighths-mile track with a 1:52.3f (mile rate) is sired by Cantab Hall and out of the Italian mare Ipsara LB.

Delicious raced 55 times, winning 29 races, and earned $785,000.

She is owned by the powerful Swedish stable, Stall Zet, who also owns top trotters like Propulsion, Wild Honey, Call Me Keeper, Daley Lovin and Whitehouse Express.
