Columbus, OH — Peter Wrenn scored his 9,000th career victory behind Sand Royal Blu in the second leg of the Indiana Sires Stakes Gold Level on Wednesday (Oct. 3) at Indiana Downs.

One of many individuals in the sport who were born into harness racing families, Peter Wrenn is the son of the late horseman Howard Wrenn. Peter’s brothers Gary, Ron, and Mark all preceded him in having success in the sulky sport. Since cleaning his first stall at age 6 and driving for the first time at 14, Wrenn has never contemplated doing anything but staying with the horses.

Wrenn’s career really took off in 1983 and hasn’t landed since. That season saw him capture the first of four straight dashwinning titles at Saginaw Valley Downs. In the late ‘80s and early ‘90s he was regularly capturing driving championships at both Pompano Park and Hazel Park. In the spring of 1994 he headed east to the New Jersey circuit and the opportunity to race with the best in the sport. After four successful campaigns there, Wrenn returned to Michigan in 1997 and was once again among the driving leaders in the Wolverine State.

In recent years, Wrenn has been campaigning in Indiana, where he has captured multiple driving championships at both Hoosier Park and Indiana Downs.

He and his wife, Melanie, now reside in Carmel, Ind., with their children.
