Yall Beneath Me, Maizee Blue Take Sire Stake

Berlin, MD — The summer Maryland Sire Stakes series for freshmen trotting colts and geldings and pacing fillies were conducted on Wednesday (Aug. 28) at Ocean Downs.

The $70,000 W. W. “Pete” Shaw Memorial for trotting colts and geldings went to post as the fifth race. Yall Beneath Me (Googoo Gaagaa-Jordanna Paige) once again went gate to wire with Russell Foster in the bike. It is his fourth stake win in four starts.

Give Em More (Lockkeeper) finished second and Enough Already (Four Starz Robro) was third. The time for the mile was 1:58.4.

Richard Hans owns, trains and bred Yall Beneath Me.

The eighth race was the $70,000 Ronald “Doc” Banning Memorial for pacing fillies. Reinsman Eddie Davis Jr. pulled Maizee Blue (Rusty’s All In-Imsuchagrrrrlygrl) before the half to take the lead from Fire Me Up (Rusty’s All In), leading to a stretch duel when Fire Me Up fought back and then I’d Be Rich (Rusty’s For Real) charged down the stretch on the outside. When the clock stopped, Maizee Blue held a three-quarter length advantage and stopped the clock in 1:59.4.

Fire Me Up took the Place spot with I’d Be Rich the show horse.

Les Givens trains the winner for owner-breeders Leslie Moore and Robert Weyforth.

The fall series of freshman sire stakes starts on Sunday (Sept. 15) and continues for three weeks at Rosecroft Raceway
