Yall Beneath Me wins MDSS final in track record time at Rosecroft

Ft. Washington, MD — There was a buzz before the card started that 3-year-old trotter Yall Beneath Me would do something special on Wednesday night (Oct. 28) at Rosecroft. Some speculated he may win by 20 to 25 lengths in his $45,000 Maryland Sires Stakes final.

He did not disappoint.

Yall Beneath Me became the fastest trotter in Rosecroft’s 71-year history, winning by 26-1/2 lengths in 1:53.2. Best Bet Photo.

The son of Googoo Gaagaa knocked his sire out of the Sires Stakes record books and became the fastest trotter in Rosecroft’s 71-year history, winning by 26-1/2 lengths in 1:53.2. It broke the mark held by I Like My Boss, set in 2017.

Yall Beneath Me set the 2-year-old track standard last year, winning in 1:54.4, but had yet to get to that mark this year. His six wins in seven previous starts this year had been by a combined 81 lengths between Rosecroft and Ocean Downs in sires stakes and race fund company.

Richard Hans is the breeder, owner and trainer of the colt who is now 14-for-15 lifetime with earnings of $162,825. Russell Foster has been the chief pilot for the colt and handled him flawlessly on Wednesday night. Give Em More (Frank Milby) was second, while Justrestingmyeyes (Timmy Offutt) was third.

Last year’s 2-year-old pacing champion, Jordons All In, who set a track standard for geldings in 1:52.1, had yet to taste victory in 2020 in six starts. That changed Wednesday night.

Sitting the pocket, driver John Wagner sat patient as the two stars of the division, Nvrfearlloydsishere (Eddie Davis Jr.) and Fantastic Voyage (Allan Davis) squared off as they had all summer and fall, but it was the pocket sitter who would go by both in the final strides for his first win of the year and a 23-1 upset. The son of Rusty’s All In took his $45,000 final in 1:51.3, a new lifetime best for trainer Arlene Cameron and owner Pamela Wagner.

Wagner and Cameron would team up for three wins on the night as K J Charlie took a conditioned trot in 1:55.3 and All Cashed Out won his Rosecroft debut in 1:58.4.

Frank Milby and Hillbilly Kisses have dominated 3-year-old filly pacers in both Maryland and Virginia in October as the pair went 4-for-4 and earned $49,200 as the daughter of Rusty’s For Real improved to 12-8-2-0 on the year, winning in 1:53.1. She is owned and bred by Hillbilly Haven Farms and trained by Brian Callahan. Fire Me Up (Eddie Davis Jr.) was second and Lady Josephine (Corey Callahan) was third.

Milby completed a driving double by winning the finale on the card with his own Get Real Rusty.

In the 3-year-old filly trot, Grey, a daughter of Charlie De Vie, has come into her own this fall for trainer Michael Hall, L.A. Express Stable and CTC stable, who also bred the filly. Driver Allan Davis used a perfect second over trip to collar the pacesetting Gooreatness (Foster) by the top of the stretch and held off Goodygoodytwoshoes (Victor Kirby) in 1:56.2. It was her third win of the year and pushed her career earnings to $79,798 in 21 starts.

Eddie Davis Jr. scored a surprising 10-1 upset with pacesetting Hillbilly Jet to win the $12,000 Mares Open in 1:52.4 for owner Dolly Goad. Favored Sassa’s Sister (Trae Porter), who had beaten Hillbilly Jet in their last two meetings, came from last and just missed by a neck.

It was the third win of the night for trainer Brian Callahan, who also won with newcomer Miss Tressa in 1:55.1 with Eddie Davis Jr. in the bike.

Eddie Davis Jr. would complete his driving triple with Miss Waterbuffalo for Jospeh Pisarski and trainer Eric Davis in 1:54.4.

Jonathan Roberts scored a pair of wins, scoring with Rusty’s Cox’s Magic Filly and winning the $12,000 Open Trot with Judge Bob in 1:55. Handicapped with the far outside post for a third straight start, Roberts, who had closed from the back in the previous two defeats, put Judge Bob in play early, finding a spot in the four hole before clearing down the backside and holding off Luckycompeter (Corey Callahan) and Explosive Drama (Milby).
