Yarock/Weiner scholarship winners announced

Tenafly, NJ — Brittany Schwartz and Chelsea Fahy have been named the winners of the first annual Edward Weiner and Edward Yarock Scholarship Awards. Each will be receiving $5,000.

The winners will be receiving their awards at the “Night At The Races” event being held Thursday, July 30, at Yonkers Raceway.

Schwartz is a senior at Delware Valley College pursuing a degree in Equine Studies and minoring in Business. She has worked with trainers James Groff and Jimmy Takter, and hopes to become a trainer herself.

Fahy will be entering her freshman year at the University of Findlay in Ohio and has set her sights on becoming a veterinarian.

Other scholarship winners include Stephani Heubner, who will be entering her freshman year at Otterbein College and will be receiving a $2,000 scholarship. Those receiving $1,000 are Fanya Stein, Carrie Ann Putnam, Molly Ann Lems, Martin O’Hare and Jason Baggitt. $500 will be going to Benjamin O’Hare and Nicholas Needle.

The scholarship is named for the late Edward Yarock and Edward Weiner, and sponsors any high school or college student who is a child of an employee in the harness industry and/or any student pursuing an education in equine studies.
