Yarock wins GSY race on Monday at Monticello

Monticello, NY — The GSY Series amateur drivers took to the upstate half-mile oval of Monticello Raceway on Monday afternoon (Aug. 9) for a purse of $6,000.

As the gate opened, GSY President Dave Yarock sent his pacer Sammy B Happy to the lead and never looked back. There were a few other leavers but one was parked on the outside and never got near the top and the outside flow didn’t really develop until late in the race.

Yarock was looking to capture his first win of the 2021 season and did so as the favorite and by 2-1/2 lengths. He never had an anxious moment once clearing to the top. Pay Later (McKenzie Sowers) came from way back to finish second and pocket sitter No Stone Unturned (Tony Ciuffetelli) faded to third. The race went in 1:57.1.

Sammy B Happy is a 7-year old-gelding sired by American Ideal out of the mare Shania Twain. He is trained by Dawn Devaux and owned by Yarock.
