Yonkers, NY — Yonkers Raceway has announced its latest purse increase, beginning with Monday’s (July 6) racing program.

Nearly every class is hiked substantially. The increase now brings the three weekly Opens/Open Handicaps (Trot, Pace, Filly and Mare Pace) to $48,000 (from the present $42,000), while the popular Open Handicap for 4-year-olds pacers goes for $35,000 (from $25,000).

Young horses also benefit, as in non-winners of two pari-mutuels or $20,000 (purse now $20,000, up from $15,000), non-winners of four pari-mutuels or $40,000 (purse now $25,000, up from $17,000) and non-winners of six pari-mutuels or $60,000 (purse now $30,000, up from $20,500).

Only the $12,500 and $20,000 claimers remain at their present purse levels.

“We are pleased to again offer a pure increase,” Raceway Vice President and COO Bob Galterio said. “It continues our commitment to presenting the finest harness product possible, and we encourage all horsemen and fans to see for themselves.

“We understand that there are any number of tracks currently open, but between the increased overnight purses and our tremendous stakes program, Yonkers remains unquestionably the best place to race.”
