Yonkers cancels after two due to inclement weather

by Frank Drucker, publicity director, Empire City at Yonkers Raceway

Yonkers, NY — Yonkers Raceway has cancelled the final 10 races of its scheduled 12-race Thursday night (July 3) card due to torrential rain accompanied by lightning in the greater New York area.

Evening simulcasting is continuing.

Note that the $25,000 guaranteed pool Pick-5 (with $7,500 carryover) has now been rolled over to Friday’s Fourth of July program, with the usual first post of 7:10 p.m.

The Pick-5 is a 50 cent base wager offered on races five through nine nightly. It has no consolation payoff, meaning if no one selects all five winners (as was the case Tuesday and with the Thursday cancellation), the entire pool (minus takeout) moves to the next racing program.

The Pick-5 regularly offers a $10,000 guaranteed pool every Monday and Tuesday (in conjunction with the United States Trotting Association’s Strategic Wagering Program), with program pages for those “guarantee” days available for perusal at www.yonkersraceway.com.
