Yonkers cancels last five Monday races due to unsafe track conditions

Yonkers, NY — Yonkers Raceway canceled the last five races of Monday night’s (Feb. 15) scheduled 12-race card due to unsafe track conditions.

With temperatures right around the freezing mark, the races that were contested had a backdrop of a cold rain, which made the racing surface quite slippery.

There was a delay after the sixth race for track maintenance. However, after the seventh race had a breaker impeding several horses, the horsemen deemed the track “unplayable” and races eight through 12 were scrapped.

Live racing is scheduled to resume Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 16), with a “French-centric” trot-filled card and a first post of 1 p.m.

The shortening of Monday’s card led to a pair of incomplete multi-race wagers, whose payouts were:

  • second Pick-4 (races five through eight) — winning numbers 1/3/1/ALL — $105.50
  • Pick-5 (races seven through 11) — all wagers refunded ($10,000 guaranteed pool returns next Monday (Feb. 22)
