Yonkers hosts fifth annual “One Walk” for juvenile diabetes Sunday Oct. 23

by Empire City at Yonkers Raceway

Yonkers, NY — Last Saturday (Oct. 15) 10 world-class trotters were on the track at historic Yonkers Raceway for the $1 million Yonkers International Trot. This Sunday (Oct. 23), there will be 2,000 world class individuals behind the starting gate in a much larger field for the fifth annual “One Walk” to benefit JDRF.

It has been 16 years since Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway, Vice President and COO Bob Galterio embraced the fight when his daughter Cara was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 9. The longtime executive immediately was compelled to take action to fight the disease, and the “Cure for Cara” was born.

Several thousand Empire City employees, volunteers and participants will gather to take action in the “One Walk” for JDRF on Sunday. Galterio once again will serve as captain of the “Cure for Cara” team.

“It is so important to be working alongside JDRF on such an important goal, curing a disease in which 80 people are diagnosed with every day,” says Galterio. “JDRF’s One Walk is a morning full of celebration, community and families gathering together to support their loved ones with Type 1 diabetes.”

Registration opens at 9:00 a.m. The walk starts at 10:00 a.m.
