Yonkers hosts Mildred Williams Series on Thursday

by Frank Drucker, publicity director, Yonkers Raceway

Yonkers, NY — Yonkers Raceway on Thursday night (June 30) hosts the Mildred Williams International Driving Series for a fifth consecutive season.

The Mildred Williams Series is, of course, a ladies only driving competition which travels across North America, racing to raise awareness about –and money toward — breast cancer research. The annual Westchester visit goes as Thursday’s third race, with post time at approximately 7:45 p.m.

As is the custom, all the drivers donate their fees, and the host venues — including Yonkers — make contributions to the worthiest of causes. The Raceway’s organization of choice remains the Kelly Rooney Foundation (www.kellyrooney.org). Based in Wayne, Pa., its mission is funding research, education, awareness and outreach programs focused on breast cancer prevention.

Here’s the list of entrants for this race, in post position order: 1-Sequoiah’s Spirit N (Stacy Chiodo, 5-1); 2-Artmendous (Kelly Case, 8-1); 3-Papaknowsbest (Doreen Dailey, 6-1); 4-Jumpin’ Jack Flash (Veronica Merton, 12-1); 5-Da Vinci (Rebecca Brewer, 8-5); 6-Too Much Pepper (Julie Miller, 10-1); 7-Big Mystery (Elisabeth Jansen, 10-1); and 8-Showmethefame (Ann Karin Larsen, 8-1).

Both Kelly Case and Doreen Dailey are previous winners of Yonkers’ Mildred Williams races.
