by Frank Drucker, publicity director, Empire City at Yonkers Raceway

Yonkers, NY — Yonkers Raceway shall offer six harness programs per week at the outset of 2007, it was announced today by general manager Bob Galterio.

The schedule includes the addition of Wednesday and Thursday evenings, moving Tuesdays from after dark to afternoon and the elimination of Sunday live racing.

Please note the final live Sunday program for the immediate future is New Year’s Eve, with first post at 5:00 p.m. sharp and live Wednesday racing begins on Jan. 10.

Thus, the week of Dec. 31 finds live racing Sunday (5:00 p.m.), Monday (7:40 p.m.), Tuesday (1:00 p.m.), Thursday (7:40 p.m.), Friday (7:40 p.m.) and Saturday (7:40 p.m.).

Effective the week of January 7, Yonkers begins its Monday through Saturday schedule, with first post at 7:40 p.m., except for the matinee (1:00 p.m.) on Tuesdays.

“With our increased purse structure, redesigned track and reconditioned racing surface, we have predictably seen an increase in owners, trainers and drivers wanting to race here,” Galterio said.

“We welcome this opportunity to add an extra program, thank the New York State Racing and Wagering Board for its cooperation and invite horsemen and horse players to take a look at our exciting new product.”

Yonkers Raceway’s 2007 stakes schedule begins on Friday, Feb. 2, with the opening round of the Hopeful Pacing Series for 3-year-old fillies.

Harness and thoroughbred simulcasting are available seven days a week, while Empire City’s 4,200 video gaming machines are in play daily from 10:00 a.m. — 2:00 a.m.

New Year’s Eve dining packages are available at both the Empire Terrace and Lillian Russell Cafe. Please call (914) 457-2456 for information and reservations.
