Yonkers to require Equine Herpes Vaccine

by Frank Drucker, publicity director, Empire City at Yonkers Raceway

Yonkers, NY — Effective Monday, Feb. 5, Yonkers Raceway shall require all horses boarding and/or racing on the grounds to show proof of an Equine Herpes Vaccine (EHV) within the past 90 days.

The edict comes after Cornell University’s Cooperative Extension in Dutchess County, N.Y., announced an EHV-1 diagnosis in that county, located north of the Raceway.

EHV-1, which is highly communicable, has been linked to more severe neurological symptoms as well as complications with pregnant broodmares. The disease has also proven fatal in certain instances.

Any questions ahould directed to the Yonkers Raceway judges’ office at (914) 457-3792.
