Youaremycandygirl sets track record for freshman fillies at Tioga

by John Horne, for Tioga Downs

Nichols, NY — Driver Matt Kakaley and trainer Ron Burke combined for two of the three divisions of the New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) for freshman pacing fillies, Friday night (Aug. 4) at Tioga Downs. All divisions raced for $37,266.

The first division (NYSS) looked like an exciting two horse race on paper and it didn’t disappoint. Hurrikane Shorty (Jim Marohn Jr) took the quick lead and hit the first quarter in :28.3. Youaremycandygirl (Matt Kakaley) would charge up and take over as they went by the stands for the first time. Youaremycandygirl (American Ideal-Sweet Lady Jane) who is owned by W J Donovan and trained by Burke, would control all the late fractions, :56.0, 1:23.0, 1:52.

As they got to the stretch Hurrikane Shorty (Art Major-Speed Date), would take a run at it, drawing even in mid-stretch but Youaremycandygirl ($3.80), would battle back and set the track record for 2-year-old fillies at Tioga Downs. It was her second straight win. Michelle’s Jazz (Roll With Joe-Michelle’s Dream) would finish third for driver Tom Jackson

In the second division (NYSS), Twin B Peaches (Jody Jamieson) would take them to the first quarter in :28.1. The favorite All On Top Hanover (Markus Miller), would then take over and lead all the way to the top of the stretch. Let’s Fall In Love (Matt Kakaley) was sixth at the top of the stretch but she looked like she was shot out of a cannon and blew right by.

The same team would win again as the owner was W J Donovan and the trainer was Ron Burke. Let’s Fall In Love (Rock N Roll Heaven-Time N Again) would run the mile in 1:55.0 and pay $32.20 for the win. Python Blue Chip (Roll With Joe-Fancy Creek Funny), driven by Jim Marohn Jr. would come up to finish second. All On Top Hanover (Betterthancheddar-Allamerican Apex) would hang on for third.

The third division (NYSS) went to the undefeated Alexis Faith (Jim Morrill Jr.).

After Ubettergo Go (Jody Jamieson) led to the first quarter, Alexis Faith (American Ideal-Cannae Cammie) would forge to the front. Owned by West Wins Stable, Jim Fielding, J Robert Darrow, Kevin McKinlay and trained by Casie Coleman, Alexis Faith ($3.00) would never relinquish the lead. She would win for the fourth time in four starts with a lifetime best of 1:53.1.

Ubettergo Go (Art Major-Ubetterthink Think) would follow in the pocket the whole way and tried a late charge but fell short to finish second. Betterthangraduate (Betterthancheddar-Western Graduate) came on late to finish third for driver Matt Kakaley.

Tioga Downs returns to live action on Saturday (Aug. 5) with a 10-race card starting at 6:50 p.m.
