Younger generations ready to take over in France

Paris, France — After the two first qualification races to the Prix d’Amérique, it is remarkable that four out of six places have been taken by 4- or 5-year-old French trotters.

The second qualification race for the Prix d’Amérique, the Prix du Bourbonnais, was raced Sunday afternoon (Dec. 11) at Vincennes and saw the 5-year-old chestnut trotter Hooker Berry, with Nicolas Bazire in the bike, as an easy winner, followed by another 5-year-old, Hussard du Landret (Benoit Robin). The favorite, 8-year-old Etonnant (Anthony Barrier), was third. The first three finishers are now qualified for the Prix d’Amerique.

Hooker Berry, who is trained by Jean-Michel Bazire, is sired by Booster Winner (by Love You), while Hussard du Landret is sired by Bird Parker (by Ready Cash).

From the first qualifying race, the Prix de Bretagne, 5-year-old Hip Hop Haufor and 4-year-old Italiano Very advanced, together with 6-year-old Italian mare Ampia Mede SM.

In today’s race, American-bred trotter Beads raced for the first time at Vincennes, but he off stride after 300 meters. Second favorite Vivid Wise As finished unplaced.

The third qualification race, the Prix de Bourgogne, will take place Jan. 1, 2023.
