Zaharias “Jack” Balahtsis, 85, dies

Columbus, OH — Zaharias (Jack) Stergios Balahtsis, 85, of Upper Arlington, Ohio, died peacefully at home on Dec. 15, 2022.

Mr. Balahtsis was born in the village of Milochori, Greece.

He was a member of St. George Greek Church in New Port Richey, Fla., and the founder of Jacks Inc., a worldwide wholesale manufacturer/distributor of equine supplies.

Mr. Balahtsis was a hardworking and generous person who enjoyed playing poker, watching sporting events and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his son, Steve (Ronda); daughter, Dede (Shawn) Dean; grandchildren, Zach, Alexia, Kallista, Angel, Mario, Demetre, Gabrielle, Alex, Chris and Dominic; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Katina (Alexander) Kollias, Nick (Eftihia) and Sultana (Nick) Harvey; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stergios Zaharias and Stiliani (Vavouras); brother-in-law, Alexander Kollias; and son, Nick.

Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday (Dec. 26) at O.R. Woodyard Co. Chapel, 2990 Bethel Rd. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 27) at The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 555 N. High St., followed by interment at Union Cemetery.
