Bartlett’s recovery taking (its own) time

by Frank Drucker, publicity director, Yonkers Raceway

Yonkers, NY — Jason Bartlett, recovering from an Independence Night auto accident while Yonkers Raceway-bound, has provided another status update.

The Raceway’s three-time defending driving champion — who suffered significant head and (left) eye injuries — has been through an array of tests from any number of specialists.

According to Bartlett, he continues to suffer from headaches, but his vision is improving.

“All the doctors said how lucky I was, that the end result could have been a lot worse,” Bartlett said, adding, “I’ve learned that there’s no timetable for getting back to 100 percent. Everyone with these sorts of injuries heals at their own pace, and I have to accept it. It’s frustrating, because Iā€™m not used to even sitting out one race, but there’s not a whole lot I can do but rest.”

It is Bartlett’s intention to again represent the U.S. in the upcoming World Driving Championship, which begins July 31 at Harrah’s Chester and ends its five-track competition here Aug. 5.

“It’s a tremendous honor, and I hope to be ready,ā€ Bartlett said.

“Before I forget, I want to say how much I appreciate all the cards, e-mails and texts from owners, trainers, grooms and other drivers. It’s really meant a lot to me personally, (wife) Kristen and our whole family.ā€
