DSBF finals continue on Tuesday and Wednesday

Harrington, DE — As the 2013 Harrington Raceway meet comes to a close, three $100,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund finals remain.
Driver George Dennis will look to complete a sweep of the pacing finals Tuesday night after winning Monday’s final with filly I’m Won Rum Wiser. He drives the favorite in the colts and geldings final, Karen Walls’ Elite Awards (5-2). The David Rearic-trainee won both of his eliminations impressively, including an early showdown with the other standout among the division, Winbak Farm’s Hawker in the second leg.
Elite Awards drew post four in the eight-horse field, while Hawker will start from post eight for driver/trainer Jeff Fout. The race is slated 10th on the 15-race card Tuesday night.
Wednesday will feature two $100,000 trotting finals. The fillies will be the first of the two as the program’s eighth race. It’s a fairly evenly matched division that features several elimination winners including Betty Chambers’ Canterbury Girl (4-1, Ross Wolfenden), Art Stafford, Jr. and Wyatt Starkey’s Overnight Hit (6-1, Art Stafford, Jr.), Richard Lombardo, JJ&M Stable and Pam Wagner’s Kelsey’s Commando (2-1, Victor Kirby) and Bryan Truitt’s Way Over Paid (3-1, Truitt).
The colt trotting final will go postward as the 10th race and should be equally competitive. Multiple elimination round winners in the field include Nanticoke Racing, Henry Faragalli and TP Johnson’s LG’s Pride (3-1, Jim Morand), Carlo Poliseno’s Briefs Or Boxers (8-1, Poliseno), Syl King’s Whichwayrightrleft (6-1, Wolfenden), Winbak Farm’s Winbak Charles M (5-1, Fout), Art Stafford, Jr. and Eli Beiler’s Bosston Bnz (10-1, Art Stafford, Jr.) and Winbak Farm’s Call Me Hal (5-2, Kirby).
Meanwhile, there’s a heated race for the driving title as three-time defending driving champion Wolfenden has a slim lead (139 wins) over George Dennis (137) and Allan Davis (136).
The training title has been wrapped up by Joe Hundertpfund, Jr., who will score his first ever training title, as he currently has an insurmountable lead with 48 wins. Wayne Givens is in second with 33, while Les Givens is in third with 31. Last year’s title was shared by the Givens brothers.
Harrington will end its 67th year of live racing on Thursday (Oct. 24).
