Jug may be in the plans for See You At Peelers

Delaware, OH — Undefeated filly See You At Peelers will go against the colts (and one gelding) in Saturday’s (June 4) $307,734 Art Rooney Pace at Yonkers Raceway. Many Little Brown Jug fans will be watching this race closely since trainer Jimmy Takter has discussed racing her against the boys in the 66th Little Brown Jug.

“The Jug is a long way off,” said Takter. “It’s only June. But if we go to Delaware she will not race in the filly division. She will race against the boys if she is up to it at that time. Over the winter, we talked about racing the colts in the Little Brown Jug, and that’s our plan.

“She’s a monster right now. You look at her and she looks no different than other horses. God just gives some horses more gifts and ability, bettor organs and better lungs. I think she fits Delaware very well. It is the best half-mile track in the country. If you don’t like Delaware, Ohio, you don’t like half-mile tracks. And she is a good half-mile track filly.”

See You At Peelers is the first filly to race in the Rooney since its inception in 1989. She won the Dan Patch Award as the best 2-year-old filly pacer in 2010 and is 15-for-15 in her career. She capped her juvenile season with a victory in the Breeders Crown.

She is 3-for-3 this season including last week’s 1:49.2 world record equaling mile in the Empire Breeders Classic at Tioga Downs. The victory pushed See You At Peelers’ lifetime earnings to $727,486.

“Our plans call for her to race in the (C$650,000) Fan Hanover and we’ll see what happens after that,” added Takter.

In 1981 Fan Hanover became the first and only filly to win the Jug.

Takter has already tasted success at Delaware, Ohio. He trained 2006 Jug champion Mr Feelgood and 2008 Jugette winner Good News Lady.

See You At Peelers, a daughter of Bettor’s Delight-West Side Glory, was bred in New Jersey by Christina Takter. She is owned by Christina Takter and John and Jim Fielding. Marcus Johansson, Jimmy and Christina’s son-in-law, drives the filly.

“My wife Christina came up with her name. We had bought a mare from a guy who frequented gentlemen’s clubs in Canada. These are called “Peelers.”

Here is the field for the Rooney. All six starters are eligible to the $650,000 Little Brown Jug. Post time for the Rooney (ninth race) is 10:10 p.m. 1. Avenue Hanover, Jason Bartlett, Steve Elliott; 2. Rollwithitharry, Ron Pierce, Jimmy Takter; 3. Arockin Hanover, George Brennan, Erv Miller; 4. Line Officer, Brennan, Noel Daley; 5. See You At Peelers, Marcus Johansson, Takter; 6. Vincent Fra, Brennan, Elliott.

Line Officer, Rollwithitharry and See You At Peelers will race as a common-ownership entry.
