Lexington Selected Yearling Sale remains ahead of 2011 pace

Lexington, KY — The Lexington Selected Yearling Sale is turning into the homestretch, as it completed the fourth of its five sessions on Friday night, averaging $16,931 for the 145 horses sold. Although the average price for the session was a bit below that of the comparable night last year, the full sale is running about 3.5 percent above the average price at the 2011 auction.

Buyers pursued trotters, especially colts, more vigorously than pacers on Friday. Both colt and filly trotters held an advantage of just more than $9,000 over their pacing counterparts in average price, and six of the top seven high price yearlings for the session were trotters.

The sale topper, and the only yearling to sell for six figures on Friday, was Home Front, a Yankee Glide colt out of Little Ms Queenie. He is a full brother to a pair of $200,000 winners. Bjorn Noren, acting as agent for the Courant Ab Stable, bid $100,000 for this Kentuckiana Farms youngster.

Runner-up honors for the session at $65,000 belonged to the lone filly among the top seven, Serena De Vie. She is by Glidemaster from the $200,000 winning dam Dream Angel, part of an extended family that includes such luminaries as Victory Dream and Dream Vacation. William Donovan signed for this trotting filly that was consigned by Preferred Equine Marketing Inc as agent for Joie De Vie Farm LLC.

The top pacer for the session, and third on the leaderboard overall, was Ideal Magic, by American Ideal out of Special Magic. Trainer Tony Alagna acquired the colt for $52,000 for his client John Fodera. Ideal Magic, raised by owner Emerald Highlands Farm, was consigned to the sale by Preferred Equine Marketing Inc.
