Torrin Hanover pulls off upset in Meadows top pace

Washington, PA — Torrin Hanover roared widest through the lane to pull off a 7-1 upset in Friday’s (Jan. 7) $17,600 Open Pace at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

Torrin Hanover closed sharply from off the pace to win the $17,600 feature at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows on Friday afternoon. Chris Gooden Photo.

While the early lead changed hands several times, Hunter Myers was content to save ground with Torrin Hanover, not even looking for backside cover. When Myers finally unleashed him, the 7-year-old Well Said-Transference gelding easily looped the field and triumphed in 1:53.3, 2-lengths better than Captain Cash (Jim Pantaleano). Carolina Beach (Aaron Merriman) completed the ticket.

Paul Corey trains Torrin Hanover, who lifted his lifetime bankroll to $328,349, for Kenneth Ashba.

Aaron Merriman piloted three winners on the 10-race card.

Live racing at The Meadows resumes Wednesday (Jan. 12) when the program features a $2,192.78 carryover in the Jackpot Pick 5 (race 4). First post is 12:45 p.m.
