On Monday (July 10), Ocean Downs hosted a single preliminary of the Maryland Sire Stakes for 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings and a pair of splits for the sophomore filly pacers.

Trainer Nick Galluci picked up his first Ontario Sires Stakes win of 2023 when Millar Farms homebred Chain Gang got up late to win race six, the second C$103,100 OSS Gold division for 2-year-old pacing colts and geldings Monday night (July 10) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Douglas Overhiser’s The Pantheist A made every call a winning one in the closing day feature at Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel, scoring at odds-on in 1:50.4 in Monday’s (July 10) $30,000 Fillies and Mares Open Pace.

Overcast skies and a rain-laden track were the conditions to be dealt with on Monday (July 10) at Plainridge Park, but speedy miles were the call of the day for the many trotters that went postward. The fastest of the group was posted by Marquis Lafayette who notched a new lifetime mark while winning the featured $25,000 Open for the diagonal gaited.

Precocious 2-year-old pacing males were on display in four $30,000 divisions of a Pennsylvania All-Stars event on Monday afternoon (July 10) at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania, and the four winners all emerged as still unbeaten in purse contests.

The New York Sires Stakes continues its march through Buffalo Raceway on Wednesday afternoon (July 12) and the 2-year-old colt and gelding pacers are in the spotlight this week with two divisions to battle for $52,500 each.

There were so many heroes on the Sunday (July 9) program at Oak Grove Racing and Gaming like amateur race winner Dein Spriggs and first time winner Cassidy Whitton, to name a couple, but USHDC President Spriggs mandated that Cassidy’s Cause be headlined first.

At its recent meeting in Indianapolis, Ind., in late June, the Association of Racing Commissioners International (ARCI) approved four amendments to the Model Rules and declined to approve a fifth proposed amendment.
