While driver Dan Deslandes held the hot hand once again at Bangor Raceway on Friday (July 7) there were certainly plenty of other accolades to go around during the first Friday session of the 2023 season. 

Last season’s ICF two-year-old filly trotting titleholder Marvelous Mystery put an end to the seven-race winning streak of Goomster, the 2002 state-bred male trot champion, Friday at Springfield.

Often referred to as the ‘Greatest Side Show’ in harness racing, amateur harness driving clubs compete everywhere from the Meadowlands and Yonkers, to Oak Grove and the Meadows; and, of course, Cumberland, Maine. Participants in this Saturday’s (July 8) Maine Amateur Driving Club (MADC) race have done particularly well in the annual Tim Fouts Memorial Driving Championship in Delaware, Ohio.

The husband-and-wife team of Dan and Christi Noble won the first two divisions of the Buckeye Stallion Series for Two-Year-Old Filly Pacers at Eldorado Scioto Downs Friday night (July 7). Five $20,000 divisions were contested.

A pair of top condition races shared the Friday (July 7) spotlight at Northville Downs as six-year-old pacing mare Princess Rockette (Pet Rock–Hammers Princess) with driver Lindsay Moen and eight-year-old trotting mare Youcouldbethatgirl (Credit Winner-Coulantine) and driver Kody Massey won their respective divisions.

So Diva won the $10,500 featured Fillies & Mares Open 2 Handicap Pace at Tioga Downs on Friday night.

Friday night featured hot temperatures in the low 80s at post time for the first race when both MADC pace races had winners coming from off the pace. The races were hotly contested and exciting had finishes as always.

Dream On A Roll captured the $6,500 featured fillies & mares’ pace at Vernon Downs on Friday.
