Total wagering on U.S. harness races during the second quarter of 2023 from April 1 through June 30 increased by $17,429,145 (4.20 percent) with $432,816,519 bet this year compared to $415,387,374 during the same three months in 2022.

A Zweig win would be sweet for Ken Jacobs
The $350,000 Dr. Harry M. Zweig Memorial open trotting stakes (race eight) and $142,000 filly stake (race six) will be raced at Vernon Downs on Saturday (July 8) with a matinee post time of 12:15 p.m. Local businessman and prolific Standardbred owner Ken Jacobs has a top contender in each with Ari Ferrari J in the open and Walner Payton racing the fillies.
Meadowlands Saturday detention barn reminder
The Meadowlands management wishes to inform those horsepersons racing in Meadowlands Pace eliminations and the Graduate trot and pace finals that those horses must report to barns 1D and 1E for detention by no later than noon on Saturday (day of the races).
Zweig next stop on ‘Wine’ trail
Based on his progression in terms of finishes, French Wine looks to be maturing nicely this summer. The 3-year-old male trotter won his most recent outing, a division of the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes this past Sunday at Harrah’s Philadelphia, after being third to start his campaign in late May and then second in his only race in June. On Saturday, the Hambletonian-eligible colt will make his fourth start of the season when he meets eight rivals in the $350,000 Dr. Harry M. Zweig Memorial for 3-year-old trotters at Vernon Downs.
Cardinal champs to tangle at Springfield
It’s very early in the ICF 3-year-old male grouping, however we could get a good sense to what’s on the horizon after Thursday’s (July 6) third race conditioned pace at Springfield featuring most of the higher echelon in the division.
