Southbeach Volo – a 4-year-old trotter sired by Bar Hopping – surprisingly won the Norwegian Trotting Derby driven by Björn Steine. Five horses were almost in line at the finish, but it was Southbeach Volo on the outside that came first.
This also marked a great double victory for one of Norway’s oldest trotting breeders and owners – Stall Volo.
Just an hour earlier, they celebrated another victory with their filly, Catchagaga Volo – sired by Googoo Gaagaa – who won the Norwegian Trotting Kriterium for 3-year-olds.
Stall Volo, run by Jorgen Jahre Jr. and his son Anders, not only breeds and owns trotters in Norway but has also had a long-standing collaboration with Kentuckiana Farms and sells nine yearlings in Lexington.
The Derby winner Southbeach Volo has South Carolina – sired by Yankee Glide – as the dam. She previously produced Charleston Volo – sired by Classic Photo – who won the Norwegian Trotting Derby in 2022.
Catchagaga Volo, who won the Criterion, has Catch A Volo – sired by Trixton – as the dam and is her first offspring.
