90-1 shot wins first classic race for 3-year-olds in France

The filly La Joyeuse Wicz with Gwenn Junod in the bike sprang a big surprise in the Criterium de Jeune at Vincennes Sunday afternoon (Feb. 18).

La Joyeuse Wicz came from behind to get the better of the two favored colts Lovino Bello with Eric Raffin and Luciano Menuet with Yoan Lebourgeois to win by a half-length, timed in 1:59 (mile rate) on a sloppy track.

The total purse was 200,000 Euro and the winner’s share was 90,000 Euro; the race distance was 2,700 meters — or 1–11-16th miles.

La Joyeuse Wicz paid at 90-1 odds and was the horse in the field who paid the most as the winner!

La Joyeuse Wicz is owned, bred and trained by Louis Baudron and she raced for only the seventh time in her career. She is sired by Fabulous Wood, a Ready Cash son, and hails from his second crop.
