Jon Schuster, 61, dies

Columbus, OH — Jonathan Blair Schuster, 61, of Shelbyville, Ind., died Dec. 25, 2019, at his residence.

Born Sept. 5, 1958, in Brazil, Ind., he was the son of William and Rosemary (Rohloff) Schuster.

Mr. Schuster graduated from Warren Central High School in 1976 and Arizona University in 1995, where he earned a BA and also studied in the Race Track Industry Program.

He was Vice President and General Manager of Racing at the Indiana Grand Racing & Casino for 17 years.

His love of horse racing began on his 10th birthday when his parents took him to the track for the first time. He was so grateful to have been able to work in the industry he loved for so many years.

He married Janie (Scott) on Dec. 15, 2005 and she survives. Other survivors include his mother, Rosemary; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Chris and Sue Scott; children, Abigail (Agustin) Mangone, Rachel (Aaron Ege), Chelsea Smock (fiancé Neal Hennessy), and Hannah (Preston) Crafton; siblings, William Jr. (Donna) and David (Becky); sister-in-law, Kathleen Scott; nephew, David (Katy); and grandchild, Brynnlee Crafton. He was preceded in death by his father, William; and a niece, Shannon.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday (Dec. 29) at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Joshua Georgen officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
